Milan Design Week 2019

In a speculative project exploring the future of furniture, designer-ceramicist Kaitlyn Cirielli and I co-designed and manufactured a modular table capable of growing a vast amount of food below its dining surface. The frame was constructed with powder-coated steel tubes and 3D printed bioplastic (PLA), and supported a cedar top, covering ram-pressed stoneware trays which held the plants and their nutrient solution. The plants were grown to a mini-green or microgreen state depending on the user’s preference, and embedded battery powered and timed lighting units in the top provided ideal conditions for fast food growth. The work was shown at the Fourisalone during Milan Design Week in 2019.
