Nice Bikes

In 2019, as a method of testing new bicycle frame designs, and with a goal of promoting inclusivity and gender equity in the sport of cycling, I started a Women/Trans/Femme elite racing team, riding the steel bicycles I was designing and manufacturing.

With a successful first season racing Category 1 Fixed Gear and Track events internationally, our team expanded its activity to become a UCI Cyclocross and Gravel team.

In 2022, we transitioned our legal status to become a 501(c)3 Non-Profit, with a mission of educating and promoting inclusivity in sports, and renamed our team and bicycle manufacturing organization to nice bikes.

This shift allowed us to focus our efforts and achieve many far reaching goals, including the input and use of our research efforts in policy change within USA Cycling and the UCI, supporting the first Transgender athlete to race in her identified gender category on the World Cup circuit, hiring women and non-binary staff to accompany our athletes and work as mechanics, photographers, and more, and creating a community of positivity and care within the bicycle industry that surrounds our team and it’s mission.

In 2023, one of our athletes became the first trans cyclist to win a UCI road race in her gender category, and the industry quickly flooded with an unprecedented level of anti-trans legislation, including the ban of all trans women from their gender category in UCI sanctioned races.

This outcome of the ongoing project that is nice bikes, although not the one we were hoping for, has highlighted the relevance and importance of trans mobility and advocacy in the outdoor industry at this critical moment in history.
