Wastewood - Superleggera
After the Superleggera chair by Gio Ponti in 1957, manufactured by Cassina, this work explores the use of softwoods, and short and thin waste-wood scraps to produce mass manufacturable svelte furniture objects.
Centered around a chair with a bent back and a woven seat, a nod to the original by Ponti, my superleggera was prototyped in mixed hardwood and fianlized in pickled reclaimed old-growth pine from 1800’s housing renovations taking place in the New Bedford harbor.
