After Donald Judd
After Donald Judd’s Front Shelf Chair 84, designed in 1982 and manufactured from high quality baltic birch plywood as well as premium solid wood.
I chose to renew Judd’s brutalist design with the most readily available construction material, OSB (Oriented Strand Board) sub-flooring. Found in every modern home since the early 1980’s when building codes changed from high quality baltic birch plywood subfloor to OSB tongue and groove, the same time Judd was prototyping his chair from what was, for his time, a low grade subfloor material.
The water-based blue dye is color matched to the blue edge identification paint used to delineate subfloor from other standard thicknesses and compositions of OSB.
Constructed with 1.375” Drywall Screws, capped with shop made OSB bungs.
The drawing pictured to the right is Judd’s, credited to the current mfg. of his designs - judd.furniture
